Divine Mercy Pastorate is seeking a lifelong catholic missionary disciple to serve in the role of Director for the St Patrick Newman Club in Sioux Falls SD.
Position Summary:
The Newman Club Director works through the Divine Mercy Pastorate to welcome students into a relationship with Christ and His Church, building up a Catholic Home for college students in Sioux Falls. This role provides outreach and discipleship opportunities for students at Augustana University, the University of Sioux Falls, Southeast Technical College, and all college-aged individuals in the Sioux Falls community to set the heart of every student on fire with the love of Christ, creating a generation of saints.
Director Responsibilities:
Meet regularly with the Director of Discipleship & Evangelization to review and discuss Newman Club effectiveness, coordinate outreach, and evaluate formation strategies.
Serve as a dedicated evangelist for university students at all thresholds of conversion through regular communication, incarnational evangelization and friendship, faith-based conversations, small groups, one-on-one meetings, etc.
Recruit, select, and meet with the members of the Student Board monthly for each January-December term.
Collaborate with the Student Board to plan and host Win, Build, and Send events including men’s and women’s nights, community events, retreats, conferences, mission trips, and more.
Spend on-campus time weekly at Augustana and USF, enter into campus life and culture, and develop/foster relationships with university ministries, pastors, and officials to grow in our mutual love for Christ.
Work with Student Board and university officials to ensure a Catholic presence during Welcome Week events.
Prepare and lead the Voyage each week, focusing on various topics of the faith, inviting guest speakers, and including weeks for prayer and community.
Utilize the time at the Sunday Newman Night meals to foster community, invite students to upcoming events, and clean up afterwards.
Recruit and coordinate parishioner volunteers to provide time, talent, or treasure, especially snacks and Newman Night meals for the Newman Club.
Partner with nearby Newman ministries including USD, SDSU, and DSU to provide additional faith- or friendship-building experiences.
Meet bimonthly with the Faith Formation team for team-building and communal prayer.
Work with diocesan staff to ensure faithfulness to the mission of our bishop and his vision of lifelong Catholic missionary discipleship through God’s love.
Coordinate and lead weekly Summer Voyages, organizing small groups when students are available.
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
Must be a practicing Catholic with a working knowledge of the faith, willing to uphold Catholic moral teaching and lead a life consistent with the faith.
Must be an active member of the Divine Mercy Pastorate Staff.
Must be open to having a flexible work week schedule, as this role includes at least Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
Must have a strong desire to evangelize and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Strong oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals. This could mean independently or in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Proficient in technology such as social media, email, Flocknote, Microsoft Office, and Canva.
Ability to think strategically, prioritize shifting demands and timelines, and execute a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive parish and student information
